PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The Wake Forest doubles team of Karin Coetzee and Katie Martzolf advanced into the consolation final round of doubles qualifying play at the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Women's Tennis Championships. After falling to Melissa Applebaum and Megan Bradley from Miami (Fla.) - the top doubles seed in the qualifying bracket and #10 in the entire nation - the duo has won three straight matches in consolation play.
Coetzee and Martzolf, ranked 53rd in the country, defeated Tammy Encina and Majen Immink of Tennessee, 8-5, in today's consolation semifinal. Encina and Immink opened the preseason as the 14th top doubles team in the country.
The tandem will face Claire Carter and Dea Sumantri of Washington. Carter and Sumantri moved into the final round after their opponent in the semifinal was forced to retire due to an injury.
