RALEIGH, N.C.-- Wake Forest avoided its first two-game losing streak of the season by defeating NC State in three straight games on Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. With this victory, the Demon Deacons finished the first half of the ACC season with a 5-3 conference record.

The Deacs hit .358 as a team over the course of the match and were led by Valerie Rydberg, Lauren Peterson and Kim Stern who combined for 32 kills. Jessica Hauff also had seven kills after missing time with an injury.

Wake Forest came out of the gate strong in game one, taking a 7-3 lead after the first ten points. Three Wolfpack errors and three kills by Rydberg gave the Deacs an early lead. The Demon Deacons extended their lead to 14-4 thanks to four kills and one solo block by Christy Williams over a span of seven points. NC State went on an 8-2 run late in the game, but Wake Forest held on and took game one by a score of 30-19.

Seven different Demon Deacons recorded kills in game two, which Wake Forest won 30-18, taking control of the match. The Deacs commited just three attack errors in the game and hit .405 as a team.

Game three was a back-and-forth battle early on as the teams found themselves tied at ten. The Deacs and Wolfpack continued to trade points, but with the scored tied 17-17, Wake Forest began to pull away. Rydberg, Stern and Peterson all contributed with late kills as the Demon Deacons completed the sweep with a 30-23 victory.

The Demon Deacons return to action Tuesday night when they host the Maryland Terrapins at 6 p.m. in Reynolds Gymnasium.
