Cross Country Wraps Up Day of Competition

CEDAR FALLS, IA-- In their final races before the ACC Championships, the Wake Forest cross country teams competed at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday hosted by Northern Iowa University. The 15th-ranked women placed fourth out of 33 Division I teams in the 6,000 meter Gold Race while the men finished 26th overall in their 8,000 meter competition.
Five Demon Deacon women placed in the top 50 overall, including Annie Bersagel who came in tenth. Michelle Sikes placed 22nd, Anna Sherman 33rd, Hanna Bremler 48th and Erin Franklin rounded out the top 50. Lisa Gibbs and Selina Sekulic also competed in the race for Wake Forest. Catherine Fortin-Major, Nikeya Green and Adralyn Wendel also ran in the open race held later in the afternoon.
On the men's side, Sean Stevens was the only Demon Deacon to place in the top 100, placing 56th overall. Stevens has been the Deacs' top finisher in each of their four races this season. Dave Barrett, Brad Wharton, Nathan Sisco, Brandon Bartholomew and Chris Elder also competed for Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons also sent a number of runners to Greenville, N.C. for the NC Collegiate Championships held on Saturday. Kevin Jones, Andrew Ice and Ottie Kerley ran in the men's 7,900 meter race while Rachel Mistur, Caitlin Dempsey, Denise Hefferin, Molly Nunn and Kara Hill competed for the women.

The Demon Deacons return to action on November 1st when the ACC Cross Country Championships will be held on the campus of Wake Forest University. The men's championship begins at 10 a.m. followed by the women's race at 11 a.m.
