Cross Country Wraps Up Regular Season At NCAA Southeast Regional

GREENVILLE, N.C.-- The Wake Forest cross country teams finished their regular season competition with the 2003 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships held at Lake Kristi in Greenville, NC Saturday morning. The 13th-ranked Demon Deacon women placed third out of 26 teams while the men finished eighth out of 23 squads. The North Carolina women and NC State men captured the team titles at the 2003 ACC Championships and both followed up by placing first at the Southeast Regional. North Carolina's Shalane Flanagan was the top female finisher while Thomas Morgan from Kentucky captured the men's individual title.
Annie Bersagel was Wake Forest's top female finisher, placing sixth overall. Michelle Sikes (11th), Anna Sherman (15th), Erin Franklin (22nd) and Hanna Bremler (25th) placed in the top 25 overall for the Demon Deacons while Rachel Mistur (64th) and Lisa Gibbs (155th) also competed for Wake Forest.
Sean Stevens was the first Demon Deacon to finish on the men's side. Stevens placed 14th overall and was Wake Forest's top finisher in each of its six races this season. Dave Barrett (32nd), Brandon Bartholomew (58th), Brian Smith (64th), Chris Elder (71st), Kevin Jones (79th) and Brad Wharton (91st) also competed for the Deacs.
The 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held in Cedar Falls, Iowa on November 24th
