Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 To #14 Northwestern

MADISON, Wisc. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 14 Northwestern in consolation play of the USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship Friday morning at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Aimee Smith beat NU's Ruth Barnes in the No. 5 singles match and the Demon Deacon duo Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Wildcats won two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead and then captured five of six singles matches, all in straight sets, for the 6-1 victory. Northwestern improves to 5-4 with the win and Wake Forest falls to 1-3 with the loss. The Demon Deacons take on No. 59 Tulsa tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
