RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team sits in fourth place after 36 holes of The Intercollegiate, taking place at Raleigh Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole event is being contested on a par 71, 6,782-yard Donald Ross layout.
Wake Forest led the 15-team field after the first round on Saturday morning, shooting a four-under 280 as a team. Freshman Kyle Reifers led the Demon Deacons with a two-under 69 on the opening 18.
WFU followed up its morning performance with a two-over 286 in the second round, dropping to fourth with a two-under 566. Co-host North Carolina sits in first with an eight-under 560, Tulsa is one stroke back in second, and SMU is third at -4, two strokes ahead of the Deacs.
Every player in the Wake Forest lineup shot at least one round under par on Saturday.
Senior Cortland Lowe heads up the Deacon contingent at three-under 139 after turning in rounds of 70 and 69 on Saturday. Lowe is currently tied for third overall and just four strokes back of field leader Chris Noel of Tulsa (135).
Senior Brent Wanner, who turned in a team-high 72 in the first round, followed that up with a 68 in the second, Wake's best individual score of that round. He sits in a tie for sixth place, one stroke back of Lowe at 140 (-2).
Reifers and senior Chad Wilfong are tied in 27th place at two-over 144. Reifers followed up his first-round 69 with a 75 in the afternoon, while Wilfong turned in scores of 70 and 74.
Senior Chris Yoder stands in 50th place with a five-over 147 (71-76).
Wake Forest, which won The Intercollegiate last season, will look to defend its title on Sunday, when the field plays the final 18 holes of the tournament.
