RALEIGH, N.C. - The all-conference awards for men's and women's tennis were handed out Thursday night at the ACC Tennis Championships Banquet in Raleigh, N.C., and three Demon Deacons were among those honored. David Loewenthal and David Bere from the Wake Forest men's team and Elizabeth Proctor from the women's squad were each selected All-ACC.

Bere and Proctor both automatically earned the honor for finishing the season as the flight champions in conference singles play. Loewenthal was voted on the team by the league's head coaches. Loewenthal and Bere make their second straight appearance on the All-ACC team this year after leading Wake Forest to a fourth place finish in the league.

Proctor went 4-3 against conference foes at No. 4 singles this season. The junior from Myrtle Beach, S.C., led her team with ACC wins. A member of the Dean's List every semester at Wake Forest, Proctor will graduate next spring after only three-and-a-half years of college.

Bere, a senior from Midland, Mich., is the all-time winningest singles player in the men's program's history. With 104 career wins, he shattered the 15-year-old school record of 89 earlier this season. Leading the team with 33 singles victories this year, Bere went 5-0 against ACC opponents at the No. 3 slot.

Loewenthal is the top player for Wake Forest. A native of Franklin Lakes, N.J., he has been nationally ranked in both singles and doubles for the past two years. Loewenthal owns 31 singles wins on the year and 23 doubles victories. Only a junior, he already ranks fourth on the school career singles wins list, ninth on the career doubles wins list, and third on both the season singles and doubles wins lists. Loewenthal has tallied a 3-4 record against ACC opponents at No. 1 singles this season and a 4-3 doubles mark. He hopes to not only lead the Demon Deacons back to the NCAA Tournament in May for the third straight year, but to also qualify individually for the NCAA Singles Championship, where he advanced to the second round last year before falling to the top-seeded, number one ranked and eventual national champion in three sets.

The Wake Forest men's team, 12-7 overall and ranked 25th in nation, begin action in the ACC Championship tomorrow morning as the third-seeded Deacons take on the four seed, No. 37 Virginia at 9:00 a.m. in the first quarterfinal at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

The Demon Deacon women's squad, 4-21 overall, is coming off a 4-1 win over the seven seed, No. 73 Maryland earlier today in the first round and advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet second-seeded and 16th-ranked Clemson at noon tomorrow morning at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.
