Women's Golf Finishes 10th at NCAA East Regional

CLEMMONS, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished in 10th place in the 2003 NCAA East Regional on Saturday. The host Deacons missed the cut by only five strokes, as the top eight advance to the NCAA Championships. The Deacs shot a three-day total of 894 (307-293-294), 42-over par.
The NCAA East Regional was contested at Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. The 54-hole event began Thursday and ended Saturday, and the Jack Nicklaus-designed course measures 6,116 yards and par is 71.
The Duke Blue Devils won the regional and will advance to the NCAA Championships which will be hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. Also advancing are Georgia, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Arizona, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida State. Individual champion, Furman's Brandi Jackson (205, -8) and Penn State's Katie Futcher (211, -3) will also compete in the championships as individuals.
Junior Deborah Means led the Deacons with an eight-over 221 (76-71-74) and finished in a tie for 26th. Senior Maria Beautell shot a season-low 69, two-under par, and finished with a tournament-total of 222, nine-over par. Senior Nuria Clau fired a final round 72, one-over par, and finished with a 10-over par 223. Sophomore Ashley Hoagland shot a final round 79, eight-over, and finished with a three-day total of 228, 15-over par. Christine Hallstrom finished with a 241 total (84-77-80) 28-over par.
