Men's Golf Tied For Fourth at NCAA Regional

AUBURN, Ala. - The Wake Forest men's golf team moved up one spot in standings and find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth after two rounds of the NCAA East Regional. Taking place at the Auburn University Club, the course features a par 72, 7,207-yard layout.
The Deacs, who shot an even 288 on Friday, are tied at two-over for the tournament with Florida and Duke. Clemson, which shot a scorching 11-under 277 on Friday, leads the 27-team field, five strokes ahead of second-place Georgia Tech. Tennessee is in third at -4 for the tournament.
Just four strokes separate the trio in fourth place and two teams tied for ninth - host Auburn and Vanderbilt. The top 10 teams and two individuals on non-advancing teams will earn a spot in the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla., May 27-30.
Wake Forest junior Bill Haas shot a team-best two-under on Friday, and currently sits in 17th place with a two-under 142 for the tournament. Haas is seven strokes back of field leader Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech, who is nine-under with rounds of 68-67 thus far.
Deacon senior Brent Wanner was one-under going into the final hole, but double-bogeyed No. 9 and turned in a 73. He is currently tied for 26th overall with an even 144.
A pair of Deacon seniors, Cortland Lowe and Chris Yoder, are tied for 38th with a two-over 146. Lowe posted an even 72 on Friday while Yoder carded his second-straight 73.
Senior Chad Wilfong turned in a 75 on Friday, moving up to 90th in the standings with a nine-over 153.
The final round of the NCAA East Regional gets underway Saturday morning. The Deacons, paired with Florida and Duke, will tee off from hole No. 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CDT). Real-time scores will be posted on www.golfstatlive.com.
