Men's Golf Earns Bid to NCAA East Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men??s golf team has earned an berth in the NCAA East Regional, which takes place May 15-17 at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala. Twenty-seven teams and six individuals have been invited to the East Regional. The top 10 teams and two individuals after 54 holes will advance to the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., May 27-30.
The East Regional is one of three such events taking place across the country that weekend. The Central Regional, hosted by Kansas State, is being contested at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan. The University of Washington will host the West Regional at Washington National in Auburn, Wash.
The Deacs, ranked second nationally, are the No. 3 seed in the East, behind Clemson and Augusta State. WFU is one of five ACC teams competing in the East, including the top-ranked Tigers, (6) Georgia Tech, (13) Duke and (21) Maryland. Overall, seven league teams earned a bid to NCAAs, as North Carolina (No. 4 seed) and NC State (No. 6) will compete in the Central Regional.
Wake Forest is making its fourth consecutive and 43rd overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1949. The Deacs also competed in the East Regional last season, missing the Championships cut by one stroke. WFU has captured three NCAA Men??s Golf Championships in its history, in 1974, ??75 and ??86.
Wake Forest, which will be paired with Clemson and Augusta State for the first two rounds of the East Regional, will tee off at 11:15 a.m. (CDT) from hole No. 1 on Thursday, May, 15. On Friday, May 16, the Deacs will begin at No. 10 at 7:12 a.m.
