Demon Deacons Take Down Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Wake Forest volleyball team defeated Georgetown in three games on Saturday evening to win the Georgetown Classic. The Deacs went 3-0 on the weekend without dropping a single game and are now 7-1 on the season. Wake Forest is off to its best start since the 2000 season when they went 10-1 in the first 11 matches.
Sophomore Christy Williams finished the weekend with 31 kills overall and was named MVP of the tournament. Erin Borhart and Valerie Rydberg were both named to the All-Tournament team. Borhart finished up the weekend with 116 total assists while Rydberg had 28 kills and 28 digs.
Kim Stern also recorded another strong match for the Demon Deacons, putting away 11 kills. Jessica Hauff also notched ten kills for the Deacs. Freshman Natasha Schaefer led all players with 13 digs in the match.
The Demon Deacons return to action next weekend when they host the Black & Gold Challenge at Reynolds Gymnasium. The Deacs will take on Louisville on Friday at 7 pm, Campbell at 1 pm on Saturday and finish off the weekend with a match against Radford on Saturday at 7 pm.
