WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The Wake Forest volleyball team needed just over an hour to sweep Gardner-Webb in three games on Tuesday evening at Reynolds Gymnasium. The Demon Deacons improved their record to 10-2 while the Bulldogs fell to 5-13. This was head coach Valorie Baker's 65th career win at Wake Forest, moving her ahead of Mary Buczek into third place on the career victories list.

"Our team went into this match trying to focus on blocking," Baker said. "We struggled with that over the past weekend, so we greatly improved on that. Also, I was really pleased with Klarysa Henry. She had not played for two games but we called her up for the last game and she came in and got an ace. Everybody else that traditionally is not a starter that was able to get in tonight, did a nice job of maintaining our team's tempo and finishing the match off in three games."

The Deacs jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game one to start the match and never looked back. Christy Williams recorded five kills in those eight points and ended up leading all players with nine kills in the match. Williams, the ACC's leader in attack percentage, hit a remarkable .818 in this game. Wake Forest took game one by a score of 30-12.

In game two, the Demon Deacons again came out of the gate strong, taking a 9-0 lead before Gardner-Webb could manage a point. Wake Forest took advantage of 14 Bulldog errors in the game and five different Deacs had at least one kill as they cruised to a 30-17 win.

Wake Forest finished off the sweep with a 30-11win in game three, the Demon Deacons' most lopsided victory of the season. As a team, the Deacs made just one attack error and finished with a .435 percentage in the game.

Williams led the team in kills with nine, while Katy de Roeck recorded eight of her own. Erin Borhart notched 32 assists and Natasha Schaefer led all players with 10 digs. All 14 Wake Forest players saw action in the match.

The Deacs begin the ACC season as they travel to Charlottesville to take on Virginia on Friday night at 7 p.m. Wake Forest then has a match against Maryland in College Park at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
