Winston-Salem, N.C. - Jean Chua and Nannette Hill have signed national letters of intent to attend Wake Forest and play golf for Deacon head coach Dianne Dailey announced the two-time ACC Coach of the Year on Friday. The Deacs enter the 2005 Spring season ranked 18th, after five top-10 finishes this fall.
Chua, a native of Cheras, Malaysia is considered by many to be the top female amateur in Asia. She owns several impressive victories in Asia, including the Far East Junior Amateur, the biggest tournament in Asia for female juniors. She has only played golf for three years but is already posting scores in the 60s. She is one of only three juniors on the Malaysian national team.
"I am very excited about Jean," said Dailey. "She is certainly one of the better up and coming golfers and I look for her to excel at the collegiate level."
Nannette Hill is currently ranked sixth by GolfWeek in the junior amateur category. The Pelham Manor, N.Y. native was the youngest to ever win a New York Junior golf championship. Hill first won the event as an eighth grader and then again her first two years of high school. She won the AJGA Steel City Junior in 2003 and has posted three top-four finishes in the AJGA so far this year. She finished second at the Heritage Junior in Hilton Head, and second in a tournament in Delaware, where she shot a first round 66. Hill placed 16th out of a 100 man field in the Boy's New York High School Championship, playing from the men's tees on a 7,000 yard course.
"Nannette is one of the gutsiest and competitive junior golfers I've ever met," said Dailey. "She truly does love the game of golf."
