Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will play its third game in five days Tuesday as they host the Davidson Wildcats in Joel Coliseum at 7 p.m. The game is one of three games that the Demon Deacons will play at home this week.
Opening the season with victories over Hampton, Princeton and Stetson, Wake Forest will look for its fourth straight victory against the Cats. The last time the program opened the season with four straight was in the 1988-89 season when the Deacs went 5-0.
The match-up between the Demon Deacons and the Wildcats will be the first since the 1999-2000 season when Wake won, 64-54, at Davidson. Dating all the way back to 1974, the two teams faced each other every season until 1978. After that, the two teams did not meet in the 80's, and just twice in the 90's. In the series match-up, no team has earned back-to-back victories. In Winston-Salem, Wake Forest currently leads the series, 2-1.
In the Deacs last outing, Wake Forest defeated visiting Stetson University, 97-58, with Liz Strunk tossing in a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Senior Erin Ferrell scored 15 points while Tiara Good and Cotelia Bond-Young chipped in 12 points each. As a team, the Deacs shot 45.8% from the floor, including 51.5% in the second half.
Wake Forest will take little time off after the Wildcats as they turn around to host North Carolina A&T on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Providence on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
