Dec. 15, 2004 vs. Elon

Elon Head Coach Ernie Nestor
"I am pleased that we played with this level of effort. We've had a few days of practice in between exams and I thought we did well executing, but bottom line is that we must shoot better. This is a new experience for some of the guys and we asked some to really step up that we normally do not have to depend on. When we start winning we'll start building confidence and then we will hopefully use that confidence to play better."

Was this a moral victory?
"There is no such thing as a moral victory. The best thing you do in a season cannot be a loss, you must win games. Tonight we wanted to have ten or more steals and we did, but we also wanted to force more than 20 turnovers, and we did not do that. We didn't defend well in the paint either."

On the team's effort?
"I think effort is a building block and a foundation of success which helps teams compete and consequently increase their level of performance. The guys are playing united, we have lots of young kids playing in this program which is steeped in tradition. We're not going away from tonight feeling that this was a total wasted effort. They are trying hard to digest the many things we're asking and telling them to do."

Is there a feeling of homecoming?
"There are fond memories associated with Wake Forest for me, but that is not what tonight was about. Wake Forest was a piece of my life, not my players' lives. This game was for them and our program, not for me."

Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser
"I thought the Elon kids played very well, they really took the fight to us. I thought we had the obvious size advantage and yet the boards were the same. I think it came down to our guys having a bit more size and we had more guys with scoring ability because of the size advantage. Elon deserves credit for a great game."

On sophomore Kyle Visser's play?
"When he plays like he's six foot eleven, he's a very positive asset for us. He tries hard, he listens, he's very bright and he gives great effort in practice everyday. I'm proud and glad to have him on this team. As a young sophomore, his play tonight was very positive."

On the upcoming game against Texas?
"I have not looked at tape of Texas from this year, but if memory serves me correctly, they scored 96 points on us last year... we won't win many games letting up that many points. I think they also won the physicality battle last time, so those are two things we will focus on for Saturday's game."

On the technical fouls?
"That was less than pleasing and it should not have happened. I think the officials made the right calls in both instances."

Wake Forest Player Quotes

Kyle Visser "I have realized that my role is to bring intensity off the bench and play big down low. I have added weight and strength, but there is still a lot more to come of me so that I can continue to improve and bring more to the game."

"We know what's ahead (Saturday vs. Texas), but I give credit to Elon tonight. It's due. I thought they played hard and looked very good tonight. We did good getting the ball inside to Eric, Chris, and myself, and being big down low. The guards did a great job feeding the ball into the post."

Eric Williams
On Injury
I remember grabbing a rebound in the first half and landing on someone's foot. The doctor called it a snowboarding injury, and that it is not severe but bad enough for me to sit out the rest of the game tonight. We are going to be cautious with it, but I am still looking ahead to Saturday, and confident that I will have another big game."

Chris Paul
"We had a size advantage down low so I was able to feed it in down low and compile my assists, which I believe is a career high for me."

"We are looking ahead now to the Texas game this Saturday and having an intense practice tomorrow just like always. We have a lot of talent and potential on our team but we did not use that to our advantage tonight."

"We have learned that we have to utilize and play hard all fourty minutes of the game. We have the capability to bring a lot of energy throughout the entire game, and we need to learn how to play every ball with that amount of intensity."
