Winston-Salem, N.C. - Former Deacon All-ACC performer and Winston-Salem native Cliff Neal died suddenly on Monday at the age of 24. The 2002 Wake Forest graduate was currently in his third year of law school at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
"Cliff was an outstanding team member," said Deacon head coach Annie Bennett. "He brought humor, work ethic and passion to the team. His teammates all speak about his commitment to improve and how he challenged them to be better athletes and individuals. He was a Champion. We all keep his family in our prayers."
Neal was the ACC champion for the hammer throw in 2002. He still holds the Wake Forest record in that event. He was named an All-ACC performer in outdoor track in 2002 and in indoor track in 2000.
