Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team kicks off their spring season to play in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The 54-hole tournament at the Dorado Del Mar Country Club begins Sunday, Feb. 22 and ends Feb. 24. The course is 6,000 yards long and has a par of 72.
There are 14 other teams participating in the event including Auburn, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue, Texas, Tulane, Tulsa, and South Carolina. Last year the Deacons finished in eighth place out of 15 teams.
Wake Forest is looking to continue momentum from a strong fall season in which the team improved in each of their tournaments. The team will be led by junior Ashley Hoagland, who is currently leading the team in stroke average at 75.11 strokes per round. Freshman Mandy Goins and junior Christine Hallstrom also average stroke averages under 76 and will be competing in the tournament. Senior Deborah Means and sophomore Joy Juskowich round out the field for the Demon Deacons. Juskowich is competing in her first team event of her career.
Updates will be posted on www.wakeforestsports.com on each day of the event.
