Deacons Seek Fourth Straight Victory on Monday...
On a three-game winning streak, Wake Forest sends sophomore Kyle Young to the mound against High Point on Monday afternoon at Hooks Stadium. The Deacons and Panthers meet again on Monday, a day after a wild Sunday matinee at Hooks Stadium. Wake Forest saw its 4-0 lead quickly evaporate as the Panthers hung a five on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. But the Deacons railled with a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to escape. It was Wake Forest's first win in the final at-bat since the 2002 season.
Greer Joins the 700 Club...
Wake Forest's 17th year coach George Greer earned his 700th career coaching victory at the Division I level and tied for fourth place on the ACC coaching wins chart. Only Bill Wilhelm of Clemson (1,161), Mike Roberts of North Carolina (780) and Mike Martin of Florida State (627).
Walk-Off Sac Bunt Lifts Deacons to Victory...
Wake Forest beat High Point in unusual fashion on Sunday. Trailing by a run in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second and nobody out, Brad Scioletti laid down a sacrifice bunt. But the throw to first sailed high of the bag. Matt Antonelli and J.B. Tucker scored easily. The Deacons hadn't captured a win in the game's final at-bat since the 2002 NCAA Tournament against Richmond. That season, the Deacons used some Hooks Stadium magic for four wins in the final at-bat against Florida State, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.
Today's Number to Note is... 4 - The Deacons are looking for their first four-game winning streak since last March 25-29.
Deacons Vs. High Point...
Wake Forest has a 15-8 series lead against the Panthers and the Deacons have won seven in a row. The Demon Deacons are 13-1 against the Panthers during the George Greer era. The only blemish on the record is an April 2001 loss in High Point. Last season, Wake Forest won all three meetings against the Panthers, including a 9-2 road win on March 19 and two home wins, 18-3 (March 25) and 14-2 (May 14).
