Demon Deacons Compete At USATF Championships

BOSTON, MA.-- Three members of the Wake Forest track and field team traveled to Boston, MA this weekend to participate in the 2004 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Nikeya Green, Lindsay Neuberger and Michael Loyd gained valuable experience competing against some of the nation's top track athletes at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. More than 600 of America's top athletes competed in Boston with the top two finishers in each event being selected to represent the United States at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships March 5-7 in Budapest, Hungary.
After taking home the 800m title at last weekend's ACC Championships, senior Nikeya Green recorded a personal best time of 2:06.39 in the 800m preliminaries on Saturday, but did not qualify for the event's finals.
Sophomore Mike Loyd, an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 60m hurdles turned in a time of 8.26 in Saturday's preliminaries, placing seventh in his heat and 28th overall.
Sophomore Lindsay Neuberger recorded a second-place ACC finish in the shot put event, breaking the Wake Forest record which she previously held. Neuberger was one of eight competitors in Sunday's shot put competition and placed seventh with a distance of 48'-07.50".
