Deacs Currently In Second at Tulane Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Wake Forest men's golf team is in second place after 36 holes of the NOKIA Sugar Bowl/Tulane Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event is taking place on the par 72, 7,078-yard layout at English Turn Golf and Country Club.
The Demon Deacons, who won this same event a year ago, sit at even par 576 after the first two rounds. SMU leads the nine-team field at 10-under par, while host Tulane is in third, 10 strokes back of Wake Forest.
WFU senior Bill Haas, who was the individual medalist at this tournament in 2002, currently sits in first place again this year. Haas owns a nine-under 135 through 36 holes, carding rounds of 68 and 67 on Monday. Haas has also extended his streak of rounds equal/under par to 11, nine of which have been in the 60s. Michael Thompson of Tulane is in second place and trails Haas by just one stroke.
Sophomore Kyle Reifers, fresh off a top 10 showing in the team's last event, currently sits in seventh place at even par 144. Reifers shot 71-73 on Monday and is tied with four other golfers. Another sophomore, Barr Blanton, is tied for 16th at five-over 149 after rounds of 73 and 76.
A pair of freshman are also competing for the Deacs at the Tulane Invitational. Chad Wilcox is currently tied for 26th with a seven-over 151 (76-75). Rookie Sean Moore, competing in his first event of the spring, is two strokes back with a nine-over 153. He carded rounds of 73 and 80 and is tied for 32nd.
The final round of the Tulane Invitational takes place Tuesday.
