Wake Forest Ties For Eighth At Southern Highlands

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Wake Forest men's golf team posted an eighth place finish at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, held at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Sitting in 10th place after two rounds, the Deacs shot a five-over 293 in Sunday's final round and moved into a three-way tie for eighth in the final standings at 11-over par 875.
Arizona State won the three-day, 54-hole event, leading the 15-team field with a 16-under 848. Florida finished second at -14, while Clemson (-5) and Georgia (-1) were the only other teams to shoot under par for the tournament. Washington placed fifth at six-over, while UCLA and Georgia Tech tied for sixth at +6. Wake Forest tied with Arizona and host UNLV at +11.
Deacon senior Bill Haas, the leader going into the final round, finished second, one stroke back of Florida's Camilo Villegas. Haas shot 68-67-71 to finish at 10-under 206. In eight tournaments so far this season, Haas, ranked No.1 nationally, has placed among the top five finishers six times.
Freshman Sean Moore and sophomore Kyle Reifers both tied for 32nd with a six-over 222. Moore posted rounds of 75-75-72 while Reifers' scorecard read 76-72-74. Rookie Chad Wilcox finished three strokes back, tying for 47th with a nine-over 225 (76-73-76). Junior Doug Manchester placed 74th at 20-over 236 (79-79-78).
The Demon Deacons, ranked 17th in the most recent GCAA poll, return to action March 20-21 at The Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
