Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Georgia Tech defeated Wake Forest, 9-2 Sunday afternoon at Hooks Stadium and came away with the series victory over the Demon Deacons this weekend. Yellow Jacket starting pitcher Andrew Kown pitched a complete game and retired 20 Wake Forest batters in a row at one point, picking up his third victory of the season as Georgia Tech improved to 13-10 and 2-4 in the ACC. The Deacs fall to 11-9 overall and 1-2 in the ACC.

Wake Forest shortstop Ben Ingold opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with his third home run of the season. Third baseman and lead off hitter Matt Antonelli drew a walk and came around on Ingold's wind-blown homer to right field. Ingold had just three career home runs entering this season but has already connected for three round-trippers in 20 games.

The Yellow Jackets came back with a run in the top of the second inning. A walk to Brandon Boggs followed by a Mike Nickeas single put runners at the corners with one out. Clifton Remole then smashed a hard ground ball at first baseman Doug Riepe who threw to second for one out, but Boggs was able to scamper home with Tech's first run.

Georgia Tech scored two runs to take the lead in the top of the third. With one runner on and the wind still howling out to right field, Tech's Micah Owings lifted a fly ball down the line which would have been an easy out on most days, but Wake Forest right fielder Brian Shust watched the ball sail over the wall for Owings second home run of the series and sixth of the season.

Tech extended its lead to 8-2 in the top of the sixth inning. Boggs singled up the middle leading off and moved to third on a wind-blown double by Nickeas. With runners on second and third, Brian Bach uncorked a wild pitch allowing Boggs to score and Nickeas to advance. Tyler Greene brought Nickeas home with a double past Riepe down the first base line. The Yellow Jackets would put three more runs on the board before Deacon reliever Kirby Wedekind was able to retire the side.

The Demon Deacons return to action Tuesday when they travel to Davidson for a 6 pm game against the Wildcats.
