Jay Bilas, one of ESPN and ABC's top college basketball analysts, will serve as guest speaker at the Wake Forest Basketball Gala Awards Dinner April 8th.
Tickets for the Gala are on sale for $30 each at the Wake Forest ticket office (336-758-3322). The program will be held at the Adams Mark Hotel Grand Pavillion Ballroom beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to dinner and a highlight video, the Demon Deacon players will receive postseason team awards presented by head coach Skip Prosser and his staff.
Bilas, who has worked at ESPN since 1996 and is recognized for his thorough knowledge of the game and his professional style, co-hosts ESPN's popular studio show, College Gamenight. He also writes for ESPN.com and contributes numerous reports for ESPN SportsCenter, including his "Under the Boards" column.
A high school All-American from California, the 6-7 Bilas was a four-year starter under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke from 1982-1986. As an undersized center, Bilas scored 1,062 points, grabbed 692 rebounds, and helped lead Duke to the 1986 ACC Championship and the NCAA Championship game. Bilas' 1986 Duke team shares the NCAA record for the most wins in a single season with 37.
Wake Forest, in its third season under Prosser, finished the 2003-04 season 21-10 and 9-7 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons, ranked 17th in the Associated Press poll, played one of the nation's most challenging schedules with no scholarship seniors on the roster.
