
Neuberger Places First In Shot Put Event At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA.-- Wake Forest's Lindsay Neuberger took home the shot put title in the college women's division Thursday at the Penn Relays. Neuberger followed up her All-ACC performance at last weekend's ACC Championships by recording a distance of 49-06.50 which was the best out of the 28 athletes competing in the shot put event.
Deacon freshman Selina Sekulic also had a strong showing on Thursday, finishing third overall in the college women's 3,000m championship. Sekulic ran a 9:38.54 on Thursday which was a personal-best and nearly 35 seconds faster than her 3,000m time at the Tar Heel Opener back in March. The top four finishers in the 26-person race all came from ACC schools.
Other competitors for Wake Forest on Thursday included Erin Franklin who ran a 36:15.02 to place 14th in the women's 10,000m run. The distance medley relay team of Nikeya Green, Diane Anderson, Shuna Danos and Anna Sherman recorded a season-best time of 11:09.99 and came in sixth overall in the college women's Distance Medley Relay Championship of America.
After capturing the long jump title at last weekend's ACC Championships, Cassy Richards placed 12th overall in that event Thursday in Philadelphia with a distance of 18-09.25.
On the men's side, the Deacs had two athletes competing on Thursday. Sean Stevens placed eighth out of 40 competitors in the Olympic Development bracket's 5,000m run while Brian Smith finished 30th. Stevens recorded a time of 14:30.92 while Smith finished in 15:09.63.
The Deacons will continue competiton at the Penn Relays throughout the weekend.
