WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- In a matchup between future ACC rivals, the 42nd-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team cruised to an easy 6-1 victory over #30 Miami Saturday afternoon at Leighton Tennis Stadium. With the win, the Demon Deacons improve to 10-8 on the season while the Hurricanes fall to 11-4.
Victories by the Deacons at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles gave them the early 1-0 advantage. Derrick Spice and Brett Ross were reunited as doubles partners at No. 1 and took an 8-4 win over Miami's Tim Krebs and Colin Purcell. David Loewenthal and Andrew Hamar clinched the go-ahead point for the Deacs with an 8-4 victory over John Hoyes and Jeremiah Fuller at No. 2.
Wake Forest continued its strong play all the way through the singles portion of the match. 37th-ranked Derrick Spice and Todd Paul pulled off three-set wins over their Hurricane opponents at No.1 and No. 2 while Andrew Hamar also outlasted Tim Krebs in a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(4) match at No. 4 singles.
