
Stevens Captures 5,000m Title at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, GA.-- The Wake Forest track and field team competed in its final meet before NCAA Regionals this weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. The highlight of the meet for the Demon Deacons came when Sean Stevens ran a 14:38.84, winning the 5,000m competition and defeating his nearest opponent by nearly 11 seconds.
Also on the men's side for Wake Forest, Mike Loyd and Eric Seely each had strong showings in the 200m dash where Loyd ran a 21.36 and Seely a 21.50. Those times were both season-bests for Loyd and Seely. Seely also ran a season-best 47.67 in the 400m dash.
On the women's side, Wake Forest senior Nikeya Green placed third in the 800m event with a time of 2:04.71 which was nearly an entire second faster than her ACC 800m title-winning time of 2:05.68. Anna Sherman, Shauna Danos, Hanna Bremler, Adralyn Wendel and Ashley Dunigan also competed in the race for the Deacs.
Sherman and Green also competed in the 1,500m run with Sherman recording a season-best 4:17.80 which placed her fourth overall. Green ran a 4:21.58 in her first attempt at the 1,500m this season. Annie Bersagel also ran the event for the first time this season and finished with a time of 4:28.46, Wake Forest's fourth-best time of the year.
The Deacons' all-ACC shot put competitor, Lindsay Neuberger, placed fourth in that event with a distance of 49-03.50.
The 2004 NCAA East Regional will take place May 28-29 at the University of Florida's Percy Beard Track and Field.
