The Wake Forest women's golf team must wait until Saturday to determine its final standing in the NCAA championship. Rain, which has soaked the Grand National Lakes Course near Auburn, Ala., suspended Friday's final round.
The Demon Deacons are in 11th place with approximately one-third of their final round remaining. Wake Forest is six shots behind 10th-place Georgia and eight strokes behind Pac 10 teams Arizona State and Washington. UCLA holds a three-shot lead over Duke at the top of the standings.
Wake Forest's Christine Hallstrom was 1-under par on her final round before the rains came. She is 2-over par for the tournament, tied for 12th place. Senior Deborah Means was enjoying her best round of the tournament at even par through 14 holes.
California's Sarah Huarte, who is 11-under par for the tournament, has a stranglehold on the individual race. Huarte is five strokes ahead of Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin (-6) and six shots in front of UCLA's Susie Mathews (-5).
Wake Forest, which is playing in the NCAA Championship for the eighth time in the last 12 years, is looking for its first top-10 finish since a third-place finish in 1995.
