Deacons Qualify For NCAA Women's Golf Championship

Howey-In-The-Hills, FL - The Wake Forest women's golf team maintained its hold on fifth place on the final day at the NCAA East Regional at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort to seal a berth in the NCAA Championship.
The Demon Deacons will compete in the NCAA Championship for the eighth time in program history and for the third time in five years.
Junior Christine Hallstrom and freshman Mandy Goins turned in their best efforts of the tournament on Saturday. Hallstrom fired a two-under 70 while Goins carded a two-over 74.
Senior Deb Means shot a 76 on the final day to finish in a team-best eighth place.
Junior Ashley Hoagland and freshman Jessica Castle each turned in a seven-over 79 on Saturday.
Goins and Hallstrom tied for 24th. Hoaglund finished tied for 36th and Castle tied for 61th.
Duke ran away from the field, shooting a sizzling 5-over for the tournament as a team, 22 strokes better than second place UNLV. This weekend's top eight teams qualified for the NCAA Championship. That group also includes North Carolina, Florida State, Furman, Tennessee and Oklahoma State.
Individually, Meaghan Francella of North Carolina won the tournament by five strokes, finishing seven-under for the weekend.
The Demon Deacons will tee off at the NCAA Championship on May 18 at the Grand National Lake Course in Auburn, Ala.
