Four Demon Deacons Head to NCAA Track Championships

Four members of the Wake Forest track and field team will travel to Austin, Texas for the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Senior Nikeya Green placed second overall in the 800m at the NCAA East Track Regional in Gainesville, Fla. and joins North Carolina's Alice Schmidt as the only two ACC representatives in the 28-person race. Green's national-qualifying time of 2:04.71 in the 800m event was the ninth-fastest time in the nation this year. The Woodbridge, Va. native captured the 800m title at the indoor ACC Championships and followed that up with an outdoor 800m ACC title in April. At last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Green finished eighth overall in the 800m event, earning All-America honors for the second consecutive season.
Junior Anna Sherman will compete in the 1,500m run with a qualifying time of 4:17.80 which she set at the Georgia Tech Invitational back in May. Sherman placed ninth in the 1,500m at the NCAA East Regional and looks to end her All-ACC season with a strong showing in Austin.
Junior Anne Bersagel's time of 33:59.14 in the 10,000m run was the ninth-best in the nation this season. Bersagel was the 10,000m champion at the ACC Outdoor Championships and also finished sixth overall in the 5,000m event at the NCAA East Regional. At last year's NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Bersagel finished seventh in the 10,000m and earned All-America honors.
Junior Cassy Richards will represent Wake Forest and the ACC in the long jump competition. Richards won the ACC long jump title and qualified for the NCAA Championships with a career-best distance of 6.26m. This will mark Richards' first appearance at the NCAA Track Championships.
