Winston-Salem, NC - WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team has been pegged to finish fourth in the 2004 ACC volleyball preseason coaches poll, while junior Valerie Rydberg has been selected to the ACC volleyball preseason All-ACC team, the league announced Friday. Voted on by the league's 11 coaches, the Demon Deacons received 78 votes and finished behind Georgia Tech, Maryland and North Carolina, respectively. Finishing the 2003 season with a 21-10 overall record, the Deacs closed out the conference season with a third-place finish. Both a team and ACC leader in kills, digs and service aces, Rydberg was the only player in the league to rank in the top-five in both kills per game and digs per game. Named to the All-ACC first-team and AVCA First-Team All-Region and honorable mention All-America in 2003, Rydberg enters her junior year as one of the league's top players. Wake Forest opens the season with three tournaments, including the annual Deacon Invitational Sept. 3-4 with South Carolina, Marshall and Connecticut at Renyolds Gymnasium. 2004 ACC Volleyball Preseason Poll Points 1.
