The No.1 Demon Deacons Devour The Dukes, 4-0

Harrisonburg, Va - Wake Forest field hockey traveled to Harrisonburg, Va. on Sunday, where the Deacons beat the Dukes, 4-0. Kelly Dostal scored two goals for the Deacs, while Lauren Crandall and Tracey Scott added a goal a piece. The Dukes failed to take a shot leading the Deacons to their second shut-out of the season. Wake Forest improves to 4-0 and James Madison drops to 0-4. James Madison was the last non-conference opponent to defeat the two-time defending National Champion Demon Deacons. Wake Forest fell 1-2 in Harrisonburg, Sept. 8, 2002. That game also marked the last Deacon loss on the road. Crandall assisted on Dostal's and the Deacons' first goal of the game. The score remained at 1-0 heading into the half. Wake Forest picked up the tempo in second half play. Dostal scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Deacons the two point advantage. Just over a minute later, on one of the Deacons 14 penalty corners of the game, Claire Laubach injected the ball to Maeke Boreel, who found Crandall for the third goal of the day. Tracey Scott rounded out the scoring for the Deacons with her first collegiate goal. She, her twin sister Haley Scott and freshman Chelsea Cipriani were the only substitutes for the Deacons. Wake Forest allowed only one penalty corner to the Dukes, compared to a Deacon total of 14. The Deacons out-shot their fourth opponent in as many games this season, firing 21 shots compared to James Madison's zero. Kristina Gagliardi posted her second career shut-out. The Deacons extend their on the road winning streak to 26 and their overall winning streak to 14. Wake Forest returns to action Wednesday evening, when the Deacons hosts Davidson at Kentner Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
