Winston-Salem, NC - The Demon Deacon field hockey team cruised to their fifth season victory, beating Davidson, 10-0. This was the 13th consecutive victory for the Deacons against the Wildcats. Wake Forest freshman Tamar Meijer led the Deacons in scoring, with four goals and one assist in the game.

"I was very impressed," said Deacon head coach Jennifer Averill. "I thought that everyone played well tonight. The girls did a good job of implementing things we've worked on in practice."

Reigning ACC Player of the Week Kelly Dostal got the Deacons to an early lead with her seventh goal of the season just 34 seconds into the match.

Davidson would take their only shot of the day and their only penalty corner of the day in the next minute of action.

The Deacons rattled off goals from Meijer (2), Dostal, Lauren Crandall and Haley Scott before heading into half time with a six goal advantage. Haley Scott's goal came with only three minutes left in the first half, off of the Deacons' seventh penalty corner of the game.

Dostal connected with Meijer for the Deacons' seventh goal of the game, just five minutes into the second period.

Other second half goals came from Meijer, Scott and Chelsea Cipriani. Ariel Meyers stole the ball in the Deacon backfield from an attacking Wildcat, and passed downfield to Cipriani, who moved inside the circle for her first collegiate goal.

After 57:16 in the cage, sophomore Kristina Gagliardi handed things over to freshman Katelyn Hughson. Gagliardi was credited with the win and her third career shut out.

"It was great for everyone to get to see playing time," said Averill. "We've got a long week of hockey and we're looking forward to this weekend."

Wake Forest out-shot Davidson 46-1 and took 16 penalty corners to Davidson's one. The Deacons have allowed only two shots by opponents in their last three games and have outscored those opponents 20-0.

The Deacons improve to 5-0 on the season. Wake Forest faces its first conference opponent on Saturday. The Duke Blue Devils travel to Kentner Stadium for a 1 p.m. game with the two-time defending ACC and NCAA Champions. Duke was the last team to beat Wake Forest, and is the only team to beat them in the Deacons' last 47 games. The match will be a repeat of the teams in the ACC and NCAA Championship games in 2003. Wake Forest came out victorious on both occasions.
