No. 7 Wake Forest Earns First Win of the Season Against No. 14 Michigan

The Deacons Held the Wolverines to Five Shots Through Four Quarters.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 7 Wake Forest field hockey team earned their first win of the season after defeating No. 14 Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter for both teams, the Deacons got on the board first nine minutes into the second quarter with a penalty corner goal by junior Mia Montag.
Freshman Amelia Blood helped secure the win for Wake after scoring on a penalty corner goal with just nine minutes left to play in the fourth.
The Deacons shot 50 percent on penalty corners to give them the advantage.
How It Happened
"Extremely proud of our ability to play four quarters today. We rolled a lot of players who produced in key moments for us. Incredibly proud of our leadership today and also the younger players who showed great strength and resilience. That was a quality win versus a quality opponent."
The Deacs are back in action next Sunday as they take on Ohio at 12 p.m.

- The Deacons held Michigan to zero shots in the first quarter.
- When awarded a penalty corner 24 minutes into the match, Wake executed a beautiful play
- Mia Montag passed the ball into Faye Janse who executed a flawless pass back for Montag to score before the goalie could react.
- The Deacons continued to hold Michigan to zero shots in the second quarter and outshot them five to zero in the first half.
- The Deacons took a 1-0 lead into the half.
- The third quarter was scoreless for both teams, with three shots coming on both sides.
- With nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, freshman Amelia Blood recorded her first goal as a Demon Deacon to give Wake a two goal lead in crunch time.
- The Deacons held on for a 2-0 victory.
