The Deacons' strong second half included five goals.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 7 Wake Forest field hockey team defeated Ohio 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Ohio started the game strong, scoring a penalty corner goal just five minutes into play. Their first goal was their only goal of the game, after being held scoreless the next 45 minutes.

Senior Rory Heslin got the Deacs on the board in the second to tie the game going into the half.

Wake recorded four goals in the third quarter, while not letting any in from Ohio.

Moore recorded a brace in the fourth quarter to secure the 6-1 final score.

Ohio recorded zero shots in the second half compared to Wake's 27.

How It Happened

Ohio got on the board in the first quarter, Wake was held scoreless on eight shot attempts.
Heslin recorded Wake's first goal in the second quarter off of a rebounded missed shot.
After holding Ohio to only two shot attempts, both teams were tied 1-1 going into the half.
The Deacons held Ohio to zero shots the rest of the game.
Wake Forest came out firing in the third quarter, recording four goals.
- Seniors Ava Moore, Faye Janse, junior Sarah Mudd, and freshman Bianca Rees-Gibbs put the ball in the cage for the Deacs.
Just five minutes into the fourth quarter, Moore scored another goal, recording a brace and pushing the Deacs' lead to five.
The Deacons finished with a 6-1 lead.

The Deacs are back in action on Friday at Kentner Stadium as they take on VCU at 5 p.m.
