Four different Deacs recorded goals on the night.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 6 Wake Forest field hockey team shut out VCU 7-0 on Friday night.

Freshman Bianca Rees-Gibbs recorded her first career hat trick. She recorded a brace in the first half, adding another goal in the fourth.

Senior Faye Janse recorded a brace. Janse scored in the first and fourth quarters.

Senior Ava Moore recorded her fourth goal of the season in the fourth quarter.

Lena Keller scored her first goal of the season in the second quarter.

Sophomore goalie Ruby Butterfield has earned her third straight win, allowing only one goal.

How It Happened

Wake recorded two goals in the first quarter.
- Faye Janse got the Deacs on the board six minutes in
- Bianca Rees-Gibbs added on four minutes later.
In the second quarter, Wake recorded two more goals to take the 4-0 lead into half.
- Lena Keller recorded her first goal of the season
- Rees-Gibbs added her second of the day to record a brace in the first half.
Wake Forest and VCU were both scoreless in the third quarter.
To finish out the game Wake recorded three more goals to secure the win.
- Janse scored her second goal to record a brace
- Ava Moore got on the board
- Rees-Gibbs earned her first career hat trick with her third goal of the day.
The Deacons finished with a 7-0 win.

"We had some great distribution today. We worked on better connections with our backfield and midfield and being able to play direct with fast tempo. For us, fortunately we were able to see those seams, but we wanted to try to open it up in the second half. I told them don't get bored with doing what is working, but also can we change it up and attack them at different angles. There was a step forward and not just in goals, but how we are connecting with our teammates on the field. I still want them to pass more, still want to move the ball more. We had a solid rotation with a lot of people contributing in different areas of the pitch today. "

The Deacs head to App State on Sunday at 12 p.m. for their first away match of the season.
