The duo led Wake Forest to a 2-0 weekend, including ACC win over No. 9 North Carolina
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After leading Wake Forest to a 2-0 weekend against ACC opponent No. 9 North Carolina and nonconference opponent James Madison, goalkeeper Ruby Butterfield and senior Mia Schoenbeck have been named the ACC Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Butterfield was the backbone of the Demon Deacon defense, recording six saves over the weekend, including the game sealing save against No. 9 North Carolina with one minute to play. The sophomore goalie faced seven shots on goal from No. 9 North Carolina and recorded four saves. Against James Madison, Butterfield recorded two saves, helping secure the 4-0 shutout over the Dukes. She finished the weekend with a 0.786 save percentage and played all 120 minutes for the Deacs. Butterfield has raised her season total to 49 saves, ranking second in the conference.
This marks the second time in her career to capture Player of the Week honors. She earned this award for the first time on October 13th this season.
On the offensive end, Schoenbeck delivered the game-winning goal against No. 9 North Carolina. She delivered three goals for the Deacs against North Carolina, finishing with credit for 75% of the Deacs' offense. All three of her goals came off of drag flicks on penalty corners, going three-for-three. In Sunday's match against James Madison, she recorded an assist with two shots on goal. She finished the weekend tallying up seven points, with a 0.700 SOG%, and scored or assisted on 50% of Wake's goals. Schoenbeck has totaled 11 goals and five assists on the year. The 2025 ACC Offensive Player of the Year has found her rhythm, and continues to emerge as one of the league's most dangerous scorers.
Together, Butterfield and Schoenbeck's performances propelled Wake Forest to a 2-0 sweep of play this weekend.
The duo and the rest of the Demon Deacons will close out their regular season on Friday at home against Louisville at 5 p.m.
