
Wake Forest Women's Tennis Cleans Up Against UNCG

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Senior doubles partners Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz swept the #2 doubles match, 8-0, leading the Wake Forest women's tennis team to a 7-0 victory over UNCG. The victory improves the Deacs to 2-0 overall after a 7-0 shutout of Charlotte on Saturday.
Martzolf and Schwartz started things off on the right foot for Wake Forest, closing out the second doubles position with a clean sweep of Whitney Miles and Kate LaCoste. Fellow senior Karin Coetzee paired up with sophomore Ashlee Davis in the #1 position and defeated Lisa Suggs and Erica Zabkar, 8-5. Freshman Jenna Loeb and Alex Hirsch closed out the doubles action in the third spot with a 8-5 victory over Emily Wade and Sophia Rychlik.
In singles, Wake dominated for the second straight day and was led by Davis in the #1 position defeating Suggs, 6-1, 6-3. Martzolf played in the second spot, shutting out Wade in the 6-0 in the first set. Only giving up one game in the second, Martzolf secured the point for the Deacs, 6-1. In #3, Schwartz gave up two games in the first, but came back and defeated her competition in the second for a 6-1, 6-0, outcome. Both Loeb and Hirsch took 6-0, 6-1, victories in the fourth and sixth positions, respectively, while in the fifth spot Offutt closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2, win.
The Demon Deacons will next travel to Illinois on Jan. 28 and then to Notre Dame on Jan. 30.
