Winston-Salem, N.C. - Junior Liz Strunk earned a career-high 30 points, shooting 6-12 from beyond the arc, leading the Wake Forest women's basketball team to a 86-71 victory over Clemson, Sunday afternoon at Joel Coliseum. The win for the Demon Deacons is the second of the season and improves their overall record to 13-5 overall and 2-3 in the ACC.

In addition to Strunks' game-high in scoring, three other Wake Forest players put up double figures, including senior Erin Ferrell who finished the day with 17 points and 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year. Porsche' Jones earned 14 points, while senior Jennifer Johnson rounded out the double digits with 10. Cotelia Bond-Young also had a good outing with nine points and nine assists.

A trio of three pointers right off the bat pushed the Deacs out to an early 9-2 lead, but the Tigers were able to tie it up at nine with a one from beyond the arc by D'Lesha Lloyd. Wake quickly regained the lead with one from Ferrell under the basket followed by another by Jones and held on to it from there. Pushing hard into the break the Demon Deacons closed the first stanza with 10-for-10 shooting from the line and seven three's giving them the most points at the half all season. At the break Ferrell had 14 and Jones had 10, while three others had nine points.

In the second half, a six point run by Clemson in the beginning didn't stop the Deacons as they answered right away at 55-41 with a 12 point run. Despite the 25 point lead, the Tigers didn't give up and jumped back into it with an 20-3 run that was cracked by Strunk from beyond the arc at 72-61. Only allowing Clemson 10 points in the final eight minutes, Wake took the victory, 86-71. With the win, the Deacs surpass the total amount of victories earned during the 2003-04 season.

The game tonight also put Ferrell in the record books, breaking into the top-15 for career rebounds. With her 15 today, she is now sitting in the 14th position with 488 total.

As a team, the Deacs hit 13 from beyond the arc and went 19-20 from the line for 39.7% shooting on the day. Wake also won both the offensive and defensive glass en route to 42 total boards to Clemson's 38. For the Tigers, Khaili Sanders had 17 points and four boards, while Lloyd contributed 14 points and three assists.

The Deacs will next travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. where they will face #6/9 North Carolina, Thursday night at 7 p.m.
