Men's Tennis Clinches a Win over Old Dominion

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team clinched their second win of the spring season with a close, 4-3 victory over Old Dominion. The doubles teams of Todd Paul and Marius Adamski, and Andrew Hamar and Liron Strauss soundly defeated their opponents in order to give Wake Forest the edge over Old Dominion. The Deacons are now 2-0 on the year, while the Monarchs fall to a 2-3 season record.
Wake's top-seeded singles player Derrick Spice fell to ODU's Izak van der Merwe, 6-7 (5), 7-6, 4-6 in a close, three-set match. Brett Ross, the Deacs' number two-seeded singles player, was defeated by Henrique Cancado, 3-6, 6-7(1). In doubles play, the team of Spice/Ross lost to van der Merwe/Nathanial Grover, 6-8.
In singles action, Paul took out Eidy Igarashi, 6-2, 6-3, while his doubles partner Adamski defeated Grover, 6-3, 6-2. Paul/Adamski beat the doubles team of Rodrigo Souza/Igarashi, 8-3.
Hamar, the number four seed for Wake Forest, soundly defeated Souza, 7-5, 6-3. Meanwhile, Strauss bowed out to Juliano Cirimbelli, 3-6, 6-7(3). In doubles play, Hamar/Strauss crushed the three-seeded doubles team of Cancado/Adriano Mello, 8-2.
Wake Forest will continue in their regular season play against William & Mary on Saturday, February 5, at 5pm at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. Currently, W&M has a record of 2-2, after a 4-3 loss to Boise State. The Tribe will take on Michigan, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Virginia Tech before traveling to Wake Forest on Saturday.
