Winston-Salem, N.C. - Lauren Peterson led the team with 14 kills and Christy Williams added 10 of her own to help push the Wake Forest volleyball team over NC State, 3-0 (30-20, 30-22, 30-19), Saturday night in Reynolds Gym. The win marks the first ACC victory of the season and improves the Demon Deacons to 8-5 overall. NC State falls to 6-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
In addition to her kills, Williams also had two block assists and a solo block. Senior Erin Borhart had 37 assists and 10 digs, while Natasha Schaefer earned the match-high 14. No Wolfpack players earned double digit kills and Andrea Bently was the lone player in double digit digs, with 12.
The first game was close until the six all mark. At that point, Schaefer came to the line and served for eight consecutive points, giving the Deacs a strong lead. Holding onto it, Wake closed the game with 22 kills to the Pack's 12.
Wake Forest quickly jumped ahead in the second game. Peterson knocked down six kills, while Natalie Mullikin added four and the Deacs took the second game, 30-22.
NC State got off to a good start in the final game with a block assist at the second point. Unfortunately for them, Furlong came to the line and served for seven straight points. A service error cost the Deacs one, but Peterson was quick to regain the ball with a kill. From there, Williams came to the line and served for five, helping Wake Forest out to a commanding 13-2 lead. Another four point run at 15-6 hurt the Pack and the Deacs took the game and the match, 30-19.
On the night, Wake Forest out-hit NC State .323 to .174. They also led defensively with 59 digs to the Pack's 44.
