Volleyball Falls to Duke In Three

Durham, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team fell to Duke, 3-0 (30-23, 30-17, 30-18), Tuesday night in Durham, N.C. Senior Erin Borhart put up 31 of the team's 33 assists, while Natasha Schaefer closed the evening with 13 digs.
The loss drops the Demon Deacons to 8-6 on the season and 1-4 in the ACC.
The Blue Devils took the lead early in the first game, but the Deacs were able to tie it up at the 13 all mark. From there, the two teams knotted the score two more times and Wake even took a two point lead at 16-14. Unfortunately, Duke caught up and pushed their to six with a five point run that ended at 26-20. Only allowing the Deacs three more points, Duke took the first game, 30-23.
In the second game Duke went out on a 5-1 run in the beginning and Wake struggled to close the gap. Despite five kills and a .635 attack percentage by Natalie Mullikin, the Deacs were troubled by the Blue Devils strong attack and defensive skills and fell, 30-17.
The third game was tough for the Deacs, with Duke jumping out to a commanding 10-3 lead. A four point run with Michael Faulkner at the line helped, but Wake unable to overcome strong hitting on the Blue Devils part.
On the night, Wake Forest was out-hit by Duke, .304 to .112. For Wake, Mullikin and Lauren Peterson both earned eight kills. Mullikin also added two block assists on the night.
The Demon Deacons will travel to Virginia Tech on Friday night and then to Virginia on Saturday night. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
