Volleyball Falls To Virginia Tech, 3-0

Blacksburg, Va. - The Wake Forest volleyball team tied the score 29 times through the course of the match, but the Virginia Tech Hokies pulled it out, defeating the Demon Deacons, 3-0 (31-29, 30-23, 30-24), Friday night in ACC volleyball action. Senior Christy Williams led the team with 14 kills and seven block assists.
The loss drops the Deacs to 8-7 overall and 1-5 in the ACC, while the Hokies improve to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Wake Forest jumped out to a 19-13 lead in game one with a 9-1 run that included two kills by Williams and a pair of solo blocks by Lauren Peterson. Answering it with a 7-1 run of their own, the Hokies tied the score at 20 all. From there, the teams battled back and forth, knotting the game seven times and taking it into extra points. Playing point for point, a blocking error by the Deacs cost them the game, 31-29.
With the score tied at 10 in game two, Tech went on a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead. Seven kills and a .545 attack percentage by Williams helped the Deacs, but Tech held onto the lead and took the game. 30-23.
Although the Hokies pulled out to a three-point lead several times early in game three, Wake didn't give up and came back to tie it at 22. From that point, Tech went on an 8-2 run to finish the game and the match, 30-24.
Wake Forest closed the night with 43 kills and a .101 attack percentage, while Virginia Tech earned 49 and a .172 attack percentage. Defensively, Natasha Schaefer had the match-high 20 digs, while Virginia Tech's Amanda Cloyd followed closely with 17.
The Demon Deacons will stay on the road and travel to Virginia, Saturday night. Game time in Charlottesville is set for 5 p.m.
