Men's Tennis Wraps Up USC Invitational

Columbia, S.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team won 14 of its 24 matches at the University of South Carolina's Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C., during the weekend. Seniors Joe Bates and Liron Strauss led the way in singles with three wins each. Both advanced to the semifinals of the A-2 singles draw.
In the tournament's top singles flight, the A-1, sophomore Mariusz Adamski went 2-1, reaching the quarterfinals. Freshman Cory Parr lost his opening round in the A-1 draw, but won a consolation bracket match.
Charles Sartor lost his first match in the A-2 bracket, but rebounded with two wins in the consolation draw.
In the B-1 singles bracket, freshman Jon Staton went 1-2, advancing to the quarterfinals of the consolation draw.
The Deacons combined to win 12 singles matches in 19 attempts.
In doubles, Wake Forest won just two of its five doubles matches. Both victories were notched by Adamski and Parr, who reached to the A-1 semifinal bracket before bowing out.
The teams of Strauss/Sartor and Bates/Staton lost in their only doubles appearances.
The Deacons waste no time getting back onto the court. Plays opens Wednesday at the ITA Mideast Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
