Women's Tennis Finishes Weekend at Deacon Classic

Winston-Salem, N.C. - -- Junior Christine Simpson closed the weekend with a 4-0 record and defeated Robin Carter of Richmond, 6-2, 6-4, to win the Flight B singles of the Wake Forest Demon Deacon Classic, Sunday afternoon in Leighton Tennis Stadium.
Three other Demon Deacons played in the tournament, while Christian Tara and Ana Jerman competed at the Riveira/ITA Women's All-American Prequalifying Championship in Los Angeles, Calif.
Simpson, a transfer from Kentucky, is undefeated since arriving at Wake Forest. Two weeks ago she went 3-0 to win the Flight seven singles at the St. Mary's Classic at the University of Tennessee.
Also playing at the Deacon Classic, sophomore Jenna Loeb went 3-1 in the Flight A singles, but fell to Rachel Del Priore of Virginia, 7-6, 6-4, in the finals. Sierra Poske played in the A flight, closing the weekend with a 1-3 record, while Blakely Offutt rounded out weekend with a 2-2 record in Flight B singles.
In doubles, the pair of Poske and Simpson advanced to the finals of Flight A, but fell to Wink/Del Priore of Virginia, 8-5. Loeb and Offutt went 2-2, also playing in Flight A.
In California, Jerman advanced to the Round of 16, but fell to Cerna Zuzana of Baylor, 6-3, 6-2. Tara fell in the Round of 32 after defeating Karina Ledaja of Arkansas in three sets (3-6, 6-7 (3), 6-1). Playing together in doubles, Tara and Jerman defeated Harkins/Knue, 8-2, but fell in the Round of 16 to Emma/Lauren, 9-8.
Davis and Hirsch, who are in California, being play at the 64-player Riveira/ITA Women's All-America Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
