Seven Deacons Advance To Round of 64

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Seven Wake Forest men's tennis players have earned a place in the round of 64 at the ITA Mideast Regional Championships in Chapel Hill.
None have taken a more difficult road than Deacon senior Joe Bates, won two qualifying matches to earn a place in the main draw. Both of Bates' qualifying wins came in three sets. In the first round of qualifying, Bates outlasted Sebastian Serrano of East Tennessee State, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Later, he defeated North Carolina's Will Plyler, 6-7 (0), 6-1, 6-0.
Bates' hot streak continued in the first round of the main draw. He defeated another Tar Heel, Derek Porter.
Bates was one of four Wake Forest players to win first round matches in straight sets. Mariusz Adamski knocked off Jay Weinekar of NC State, 6-2, 6-4. Cory Parr defeated Ned Samuelsson of Duke, 6-2, 6-2. Liron Strauss rolled past UNC Greensboro's Marc Ladouceur, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Andrew Hamar, Todd Paul and Brett Ross all received first round byes to give Wake Forest has seven entries in Friday's round of 64.
