He previously started at guard. Benjamin Mauk started at quarterback for the first time since the Maryland game. Only three players on offensive have started every game in 2005 (Steve Vallos, Arby Jones and Steve Justice). Only four players on defense have started every game (Patrick Ghee, Matt Robinson, Jeremy Thompson and Alphonso Smith).
Mauk To Boldin... Benjamin Mauk's first pass of the game, and his first attempt since the Maryland game, was completed 46 yards to Demir Boldin. It was the longest pass of the season for Mauk and a career-long reception for Boldin.
Swank Streaking... Sam Swank's field goal from 27 and 40 yards in the first quarter was his fifth and sixth consecutive successful attempt dating back to the first half of the Florida State game.
Gattis Returns To The House... Josh Gattis' first quarter interception return for a touchdown was his second in as many weeks. He returned one against Boston College in the fourth quarter last week. For Gattis, it was his fourth pick of the season (tied for the ACC lead) and the sixth of his career.
Plackemeier Joins Elite Company... Ryan Plackemeier went over 200 career punts on Saturday, making him eligible for the NCAA's all-time career punting list. He now stands at 207 career punts for 9,297 career yards, an average of 44.9 per kick. That ranks first all-time in NCAA history with a minimum of 200 punts.
More on Plackemeier... The senior punter had eight punts Saturday for 410 yards -- 51.2 yards per punt. His last punt of 82 yards set a new Wake Forest record. The previous record was 74 yards set by Wayne Wolff against NC State on Nov. 5, 1960. Plackemeier had three punts over 55+ yards, including two over 70+ yards.
Safety Squeeze... Mario Williams' sack of Benjamin Mauk for a safety in the second quarter marked the first safety by a Deacon opponent this season, the first since the 2004 season opener at Clemson.
Morton Completes Touchdown Trifecta... Nate Morton rushed for a nine-yard touchdown in the third quarter. It marked his first career rushing touchdown. In his career, Morton has now passed, rushed and received a touchdown.
