Barclay Record Watch
Barclay carried 27 times today for 105 yards and one touchdown. He ends his career with 840 carries, 4,032 yards and 40 touchdowns. Already Wake Forest's all-time leading rusher, today he passed FSU's Warrick Dunn, UNC's Mike Voight and Virginia's Thomas Jones to finish in 5th place in ACC history for career rushing yards.
His second quarter touchdown was the 40th of his career. Later, when he reached 4,000 career yards, he become the 3rd player in ACC history, the 31st in NCAA history, to rush for 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns. He is the first ACC player to do so since 1984 when Georgia Tech's Robert Lavette accomplished the feat.
It was Barclay's sixth 100-yard rushing day of the season and the 15th of his career.
Randolph Sets New Single Season Completion Percentage Record
Cory Randolph went 8-for-16 today, to end his senior season with 85 completions and 131 attempts, for a 64.9 completion percentage. That breaks the Wake Forest single season completion record that has been in place since 1985. Foy White went 132 for 210 (62.9 percent).
Single Season Record Updates
Senior Chris Barclay finished the 2005 season with 1,127 yards rushing which ranks as the fifth best single season mark. Barclay finished the season with an average of 5.17 yards per carry, placing him sixth on the single season rushing average per carry. Barclay also finished the 2005 season with a total of 1,508 all-purpose yards, giving him the fifth highest single season total.
Sophomore Micah Andrews finished third on the rushing average per attempt running 621 yards on 110 carries, good for an average of 5.65.
Freshman kicker Sam Swank finished the season with 86 total points (19 field goals and 29 PATs), placing him third for points scored in one season. Swank finished the season with a season high 19 field goals made. Swank finished the season with a 79.2 field goal percentage (19-of-24), placing just behind Wilson Hoyle's 80 percent mark in 1987.
Senior punter Ryan Plackemeier also set a new single season high punting average with a 47.2 mark (3,165 yards on 67 punts). He broke his previous mark of 45.6 set in 2003.
For Starters
Napoleon Sykes made his first career start at linebacker in place of Stanley Arnoux. Steve Vallos, Steve Justice and Arby Jones ended the season as the only players on offense to start every game. On defense, Patrick Ghee, Matt Robinson and Alphonso Smith were the three players to start every game.
Swank Gets Into One
Sam Swank's 52-yard field goal on the game's opening drive was a career-long. It was also the longest field goal in the ACC this season, surpassing Swank's 51-yarder at Nebraska. It also marked his 11th straight consecutive attempt, a new Wake Forest record (previously set by Wilson Hoyle in 1987). The 52-yarder is also the third-longest in Wake Forest history, the longest since Matthew Burdick's 53-yarder in 1998.
Morton To Davis Touchdown
Nate Morton's 71-yard touchdown pass to Chris Davis was Morton's second touchdown pass for his career. His first one was also a wide receiver pass to Chris Davis against Boston College last year. It marked the second-longest pass play of the season for the Deacons and the 12th-longest in Wake Forest history. For Morton, it was the fifth touchdown he's been involved with this season (two rush, two receiving, one passing). Morton, who was recruited to Wake Forest as a quarterback, is 4-of-5 in his career for 203 yards and two touchdowns.
Rare Barclay Miscue
Chris Barclay's second quarter fumble was only his second lost fumble of the season and the fifth of his career. The fumble came on Barclay's 917 career touch (including carries, catches and returns).
Selmon Post Career-Long Reception
Zac Selmon's 36 yard reception on the game's opening drive was a career-long.
Randolph's Interceptions
Cory Randolph had thrown two interceptions all season until he threw two today.
Miami's Long Plays
Miami's two long touchdown passes of 64 and 76 yards were the two longest plays by Deacon opponents this season.
