Deacons Ink Three Tennis Players

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Three prep tennis stars have signed national letters of intent to play at Wake Forest University beginning in the fall of 2006, head coach Jeff Zinn announced Friday. All three are listed as five-star recruits by the website, tennisrecruiting.net. The Demon Deacons add Andrew Brasseaux (Covington, La./St. Paul's School), Mike Greenberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and Jason Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview Old Bethpage JFK).
"We're extremely happy with this class," Zinn said. "All three of these players are a good fit for Wake Forest University on and off the court. They are the kind of people and players who can help us compete for an ACC Championship."
Brasseaux is the 83rd-ranked junior nationally. He was a finalist at the ITF G-5 event in Ecuador earlier this fall where he scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jose Zunino, an Ecuadorian who has been as high as 1138 in the ATP rankings. He also reached the quarterfinals at the Peru Junior Open. Brasseaux has been training at Joey Blake's Top Notch academy in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Greenberg is ranked 74th nationally. He was a the NCHSAA 3-A state champion in 2005 as a junior and placed fourth in the 2005 Mayor's Cup. Greenberg posted a third place finish at the North Carolina Tar Heel Qualifier. His brothers played college tennis, Jonny at Kenyon college and Dan at Williams.
Morgenstern is the 40th-ranked junior nationally. Last month at the National Open in Latham, N.Y., Morgenstern was a semifinalist. He reached the round of 16 at the 2004 National Clay Courts Tournament. He competed in the prestigious Junior Davis Cup with current Deacon freshman and fellow New Yorker Cory Parr in July.
