Women's Golf Starts Spring Season

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake forest women's golf team will begin their spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Invitational on Monday. Purdue hosts the three day, 54-hole tournament in Dorado, Puerto Rico. The Dorado Del Mar Country Club course is 6,000 yards long.
"We are looking forward to getting back into competition play," said Deacon head coach Dianne Dailey. "The girls have been working extremely hard and I think we're all anxious to start to hopefully put our practice to good use and enjoy some warm weather golf."
The Deacons are the only ACC school participating in the field of 13 teams. Two of the teams coming are ranked in the top-five, three more are in the top-20 and 11 of the 13 are ranked in the top-50. Participating schools include Auburn (#3), Cal-Berkeley, Florida (#16), Georgia (#5), Kent State (#33), Penn State (#80), Purdue (#31), TCU (#49), Texas (#17), Tulsa, (#22), Southern Cal (#21), Wake Forest (#18) Oklahoma (#26) - the alma mater of the Deacons new assistant coach Hope Edge.
Wake Forest travels to Puerto Rico with two seniors-- Ashley Hoagland and Christine Hallstrom, two sophomores-- Mandy Goins and Maggie Simons and one freshman-- Laura Crawford. The starting five combined for nine individual top-20 finishes in the fall, including four top-10 postings. The group as a whole finished in the top-10 of all four tournaments. The Deacons best 18-hole performance totaled 286 strokes while their best 54-hole showing was 881.
The Deacs enjoy a two week break after Puerto Rico, before traveling to Gainesville, Fla. for the Lady Gator Invitational.
