Deacons Finish Day One At Wake Forest Open

Winston-Salem, NC - Cassy Richards and Lindsay Neuberger won individual titles on day one of the Wake Forest Open. Richards jumped 19-7 in the long jump, while Neuberger tossed 49-4.25 in the shot put. Both were top-three marks in the ACC this season.
Richards finished first in the long jump, earning her a regional qualifying mark in that event. She was followed closely by freshman Melissa Council, who jumped an 18-4.5.
Neuberger placed first in the shot put, with the second best throw in the ACC this season. Her mark earned her regional qualifying status. Catherine Muehleib threw a 40-9 in the shot put.
Kayla Gassman was the only Deacon to compete in the javelin throw. She threw a 119-5, earning her a top-10 ACC performance this season.
Ben Renner was the lone field event finisher for the Deacon men. He placed ninth in the long jump, with a 20-1.75.
Part two of the Wake Forest Open continues on Saturday. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m.
